About NWFCU
Northwest Federal Credit Union (NWFCU), a not-for-profit financial cooperative, has served the financial needs of select government employees and more than 400 Member Companies, and their families since 1947. NWFCU ranks among the largest and most respected credit unions in the nation, with nearly 90,000 members and assets in excess of $1.5 billion.
A full-service financial institution, NWFCU has five branch offices with locations in Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C., plus a full-service call center located in Herndon, Virginia.
NWFCU provides investment and insurance services, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Northwest Financial LLC, and business loans through its partnerships with Credit Union Business Capital (CUBC) and Potomac Business Services (PBS).
History
- November 1947 – Northwest Federal Credit Union is chartered in Northwest Washington, D.C. to serve Agency employees.
- September 1989 – NWFCU opens Herndon Branch
- September 2001 – NWFCU opens Vienna Branch
- October 1996 – Northwest Financial LLC is formed to offer NWFCU members insurance and investment services not directly available through the Credit Union.
- March 1999 – NWFCU diversifies membership to include local employers and their employees.
- December 2004 – The NWFCU Foundation is formed to promote and manage the Credit Union's philanthropic activities.
- October 2005 – NWFCU merges with New Horizon and acquires Chantilly Branch.
- November 2007 – NWFCU celebrates 60th Anniversary!
