Application Options

Thank you for considering NWFCU for your home financing needs. Whether you are looking to purchase a new home or refinance an existing mortgage, we can help make applying online easy – no lines, stress or hassle.  You can use our online application to become a preapproved buyer, to submit your application to purchase a home, or to refinance an existing mortgage.   If you decide to apply with NWFCU, you will be asked to provide payment information for the collection of fees necessary to begin processing your loan.

Please Note: Fees will not be collected until you have chosen to submit your application.

Loan Processing Costs

Refinance Application:  Refinancing your mortgage requires an application fee of $462.50* to cover the cost of the real estate appraisal, obtaining your credit report, flood certification and the underwriting fee. Once you apply to refinance your mortgage loan, an appraisal will be ordered to determine the current market value of your home and used to determine if you have sufficient equity in your property to refinance. Your appraisal fee is required upfront and will not be returned to you, regardless of the appraisal value. Determining your home’s value and more importantly your equity in the property will play a big part in your refinance decision. Please note: If borrowing additional cash with your refinance, you may be required to pay discount points on the new loan amount if the loan to value (LTV) exceeds 60%. No-cash-out refinanced mortgage loans are available if the loan to value exceeds 80%.

Pre-approval Application:  Before you begin house hunting, have your mortgage preapproved by NWFCU.  This will let you know how much house you can afford and will put you in a better bargaining position with the seller since you'll be a “cash” buyer.  Plus, since the majority of the paperwork has already been completed, you'll be able to close your loan faster, and move into your new home sooner.  

Purchase Application: 
Please include $418.00* with your application to cover the cost of obtaining your credit report, real estate appraisal, flood certification, and the underwriting fee. See below for payment options.

Payment Authorization
You will be charged these fees after you have completed and submitted your online application. You may provide payment from either your NWFCU account or NWFCU credit card.  If you prefer, you may also mail a check to the NWFCU Mortgage Department at P.O. Box 5068, Herndon, VA 20172-9806.
