Hannaford Bros alerts customers of a large-scale compromise of debit and credit card information

Visa and MasterCard have informed NWFCU about a large-scale compromise involving debit and credit card information. The compromised retailer is Hannaford Bros who announced it has suffered an unauthorized intrusion into its computer systems that process and store debit and credit card transactions.  Hannaford stores in New England and New York as well as Sweetbay stores in Florida were affected.  Independently-owned retail locations in the Northeast that carry Hannaford products also were included in this compromise.

Are NWFCU members affected by this breach?
If you shopped at Hannaford Bros stores and used your credit or debit card for purchases between December 7, 2007 and March 10, 2008 your credit card number may have been exposed in this breach. Hannaford Bros has established a special toll free number that you can call for more information: 1-866-591-4580.

This compromise had nothing to do with NWFCU’s internal computer system and ensuring the security of your financial information is top priority for NWFCU.  It is extremely important that you carefully review all of your account statements and immediately notify NWFCU if you suspect fraudulent use.  Please remember that you are fully protected against any fraudulent purchases and have zero liability for unauthorized transactions.
