Mortgage Telemarketing Scam

Northwest Federal Credit Union members are reporting calls received from telemarketers representing themselves as NWFCU mortgage representatives. Please be advised that these calls are fraudulent.

NWFCU respects and protects your privacy and never sells your name, financial records, loan information or phone number to anyone. Period. In addition, Northwest Federal never telemarkets to members. The only calls you will ever receive from us are those returning your call or in follow up to your service needs, and in the event of such calls, our employees will clearly identify themselves and will not ask you for sensitive identifying information such as social security number.

There is no way to completely prevent these types of fraudulent phone solicitations. Mortgage/land owner information is a matter of public record, and, in the current climate of ever-increasing competition for mortgage loans, refinances and equity loans, some lenders will resort to unscrupulous tactics to try to get your loan. To protect yourself, NWFCU suggests the following:

  1. Register your home and cell phone numbers in the National Do Not Call Registry at https://www.donotcall.gov.
  2. Keep in mind that our Mortgage representatives are on duty M-F 8:00am - 4:30pm only; calls received outside of these normal business hours are most likely fraudulent.
  3. Any calls received from Northwest Federal Credit Union will be made by personnel who are more than happy to verify their identity and leave a call back number.
  4. Never divulge sensitive identifying information to callers. Our representatives will have your member profile on-screen and can prove to you who they are; you should not have to prove who you are to any callers.
  5. Report fraudulent solicitations of any nature to fraud@nwfcu.org for immediate investigation and so that we may issue a Fraud eLERT to apprise all members of the scam.
