Telephone/Text Message Phishing Scam Attempts to Obtain Cardholder Information

Fraudulent attempts to capture card numbers are now being done through an automated telephone service or a text message. The message indicates the cardholder’s credit/debit account may have been compromised and has been placed on a hold status. In order to activate the card, the message asks the recipient to call another phone number and enter his/her 16-digit card number and personal identification number (PIN).

DO NOT respond to this type of message. These messages are scams. NWFCU would never ask for your PIN number or the unique number on the back of your credit or debit card in any type of message.

What can you do to protect yourself?
Always limit the release of personal information. In addition, you should contact NWFCU directly to verify any type of card inquiry.

If you responded to such a message, you should contact your financial institution immediately. If you suspect fraud or ID theft on your NWFCU account, email us at fraud@nwfcu.org.
