Important System Maintenance Updates

Northwest Federal will perform a scheduled system maintenance beginning Friday, May 14 thru Monday, May 17. This system maintenance will temporarily result in members having limited account access. Please plan accordingly for your cash and money management needs.

New or edited Bill Pay and/or ACH transactions unavailable after 11:59pm

Online, Mobile and Telephone Banking available until 7:00pm

May 14-17

  • Northwest Federal Debit Mastercard® -- your debit card can be used for purchases, cash withdrawals and cash back at point-of-sale transactions (up to your available balance).
  • ATMs – all Northwest Federal ATMs as well as CO-OP ATMSM, Alliance One® and CULIANCE®/CU HERE and STAR® ATMs can be used for cash withdrawals (up to the daily limit) and deposits (at deposit taking ATMs). However, ATM deposits will not be available in your account until Monday, May 17.
  • Northwest Federal Credit Cards – you’ll be able to use your current Northwest Federal Visa® or Mastercard®
  • Call Center – available to answer general system maintenance questions only. Account inquiries and monetary transactions will not be available.

May 14 7:00pm ET thru May 17 9:00am ET

  • Online and Mobile Banking, including Bill Pay
  • Northwest Federal branches and offices, Home Loan Center, Shared Branch transactions (except cash withdrawals and deposits at Shared Branch ATMs)
  • Wire transfers
  • Overdraft protection from another Northwest Federal account or credit card, Member Protection Plan
  • Schedule any bill payments that need to be paid in advance.  For example, if your utility bill needs to be paid by May 15, make sure you schedule that bill pay to be paid by May 13. You will not be able to make Bill Pay modifications after 11:59pm on Thursday, May 13 and Online and Mobile Banking will be unavailable beginning 7:00pm on Friday, May 14. Previously scheduled bill payments will be paid as scheduled.
  • IRA Contributions for 2020 Federal Tax Returns. If you are planning to make an IRA Contribution for your 2020 Federal Tax Return and/or will be opening a new IRA by the newly extended IRS cutoff date of May 17, please contact us no later than 4:30pm May 17 so we may provide you with any assistance you may need.
    • During our period of limited access, May 15-May 17, you may inform the Credit Union of your desire to contribute to an IRA for tax year 2020 by

    • On May 17, between 9:00am-4:30pm, contact the IRA Department at 703-709-8900, x4490.

To designate your 2020 IRA contribution, please provide the following information:

  • Your account number where your IRA resides
  • The dollar amount for your 2020 IRA contribution
  • The account number where the funds are currently deposited at the Credit Union
  • Your preferred contact information where we may reach out to you on May 17, 2021 if the IRA Department has any questions

You may also open an IRA, by emailing or faxing a signed IRA application to the IRA Department along with your 2020 IRA contribution instructions.  Complete your IRA application here.

  • Wire Transfers. If you need to wire funds close to this timeframe, you must submit your wire request by 4:00pm ET on May 14.
  • Access to monthly statements and year-end tax forms - If you need to access copies of monthly statements or year-end tax forms, login to Online and or Mobile Banking prior to 7:00pm Friday, May 14 to download documents.

Q. When will Northwest Federal Credit Union Offices be closed?

A. All branches and offices will be closed Saturday, May 15. We will reopen for our regular business hours on Monday, May 17. The Call Center will be open regular business hours Saturday to answer general questions regarding the system maintenance schedule only. No account inquiries or monetary transactions will be performed.

Q. Why is the Credit Union closing? Is there a problem?

A. No, there isn’t a problem. The Credit Union continues to thrive. This closing was pre-planned in order to perform maintenance on our systems. We are required to pause account access while this maintenance is being performed.

Q. Will I have access to my accounts while the credit union is closed? How much can I withdraw?

A. You can access your accounts at any branch until 6:00pm ET Friday, May 14. Online and Mobile Banking will be available until 7:00pm ET Friday, May 14. Then, you can use any one of our fee-free ATMs and/or your debit card (up to the daily limit for each:  up to $2,500 limit for debit card; up to $500 daily limit for ATM withdrawals). You may also use your current Northwest Federal Visa® or Mastercard® credit cards.

Q: Will I be able to schedule bills to be paid through Bill Pay?

A. Any bills you may have that will be due May 14-17, should be scheduled no later than 11:59pm ET Thursday, May 13. If you have recurring payments already scheduled to be paid during these dates, they will continue to be paid as scheduled. Bill Pay will become available again Monday, May 17.

Q: What will happen to transfers I have scheduled between Northwest accounts on May 15 and/or 16?

A. Any transfers between Northwest accounts that are scheduled for May 15 or 16 will occur Monday, May 17.

Q. What if I need to wire funds, retrieve items from my safe deposit box, or withdraw cash from a branch while you are closed May 15?

A. Unfortunately, since all offices will be closed, you will not be able to access your account information or perform any of those transactions. Our entire member services team will be involved in the system maintenance process and will be happy to assist you on Monday, May 17. Wire transfers should be completed by 4 pm Friday, May 14.

Q. I’m preparing important tax documents and need access to my monthly statements or year-end tax documents, what do I do?

A. Login to Online and/or Mobile Banking prior to 7:00pm May 14 to download any documents you may need to access. Online and Mobile Banking will be available again Monday, May 17.

Q. What if I need to make a contribution to my IRA for 2020 Federal tax filing?

A. If you are planning to make an IRA contribution for your 2020 Federal tax return, please contact us no later than 4:30pm Monday, May 17 so we may provide you any assistance you need. While we are closed, you may inform the Credit Union of your desire to contribute by email at or fax 703-925-5125.
