Custodial Accounts

Only members with a Dividend Rewards or Debit Rewards checking account may open a Rewards Savings account.

Amounts over $50,000 earn 0.50% on the portion of the balance over $50,000, resulting in a range from 1.50% to 1.01% APY depending on the account’s balance. APY calculation is based on an assumed balance of $100,000. In order to earn the APY listed, the account qualifications for your Rewards checking account must be met during the Monthly Qualification Cycle.

Balances up to $1,500 receive APY of 2.27%; and balances over $1,500 earn 0.25% on the portion over $1,500, resulting in a range from 2.27% to 0.37% APY depending on the account’s balance.

Member Protection Plans

Standard Member Protection Plan
MPP Standard offers additional, optional coverage that is available upon request by eligible accountholders. Under this plan, the Credit Union authorizes and pays overdrafts for the following types of transactions:

  • Checks, ACHs and other transactions made using your checking account number
  • Automatic bill payments
  • ATM transactions
  • Everyday debit card transactions

To opt into this plan:

  1. Login to Online Banking
  2. Under Quick Links, select Member Protection Plan/Courtesy Pay Form
  3. Complete and submit the form via Message Center

Limited Member Protection Plan
MPP Limited offers coverage that comes with your eligible checking account1. Under this plan, the Credit Union authorizes and pays overdrafts for the following types of transactions:

  • Checks, ACHs and other transactions made using your checking account number
  • Automatic bill payments

Overdraft Coverage
Overdraft Protection Plans – Draw Accounts

Protect your account from overdrafts by linking your savings, credit card, Money Market Account or Line of Credit loan to your checking account. If your checking account has insufficient funds, we’ll automatically transfer money from these accounts.

*Member Protection Plan enrollees will pay a reduced fee of $29.50 on overdrafts instead of $32.50 for insufficient funds fee. A fee may be imposed for covering overdrafts created by check, in-person withdrawal, ATM withdrawal, or other electronic means. A maximum of six (6) MPP, overdraft and/or returned item fees will be charged per day.

The Member Protection Plan (MPP) is not a line of credit. However, if you overdraw your account, we have the discretion to pay the overdraft subject to the limit of your MPP and the amount of the overdraft fee. Northwest Federal is not obligated to pay any item presented for payment if your account does not contain sufficient available funds. You must bring your account to a positive balance for at least twenty-four (24) hours within every thirty (30) day period. Northwest Federal will not pay overdrafts if you have exceeded your MPP limit or if you are delinquent in repayment.

To determine whether you have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, we use your account’s available balance which is based upon the deposits and withdrawals to your account and all pending electronic transactions, including pre-authorized transfers, point of sale transactions, and merchant payment authorizations, regardless of whether they have posted to your account.

First, you’ll need to gather the information for your existing automated payments and direct deposits you want to switch to your Northwest Federal account.

Next, call us or come by any branch to get your Switch Track Code. With your code, you’re ready to:

  • Log in – to ClickSWITCH®*
  • Set up – your user name and password
  • Choose – “Create a Deposit” and begin adding your direct deposit information
  • Switch – click “Create a Switch” to begin adding your payment accounts and submit
  • Close – once the switch process is complete, you can even initiate the closure of your checking account at the other financial institution

Conveniently Transfer Funds

Domestic outgoing wire transfer

To conduct a domestic wire transfer, you’ll need the following information about the receiving financial institution:

  • ABA Routing Number
  • Institution’s name
  • Recipient’s name, address and account number
  • Any special instructions (if applicable)

Wire transfers can be requested in Online Banking. Once logged in, access the QUICKWIRES widget.

Foreign outgoing wire transfer

Here’s what you’ll be asked to provide when conducting a foreign wire transfer:

  • Your name, address, phone number and Social Security Number
  • Your Northwest Federal account number
  • Receiving institution’s Swift code, name and address
  • Receiving institution’s International Bank Account (IBAN) for countries in European Union
  • Recipient’s name and account number
  • Any special instructions (if applicable)
