Partnership Program News

July 2026

When was last time you looked at your Home and Auto Insurance Premium payments? Lately, I’ve been having a lot of conversations with members here in Northern Virginia who are shocked by how quickly their insurance premiums are climbing and honestly, I don’t blame them. We’re seeing some of the steepest increases in years, and most people have no idea how fast their coverage can fall out of date.

Here’s what the latest research is showing right here in our region:

  • Home insurance premiums in Northern Virginia are jumping 15–25% a year, even for people who haven’t filed a single claim.
  • Across Virginia, rates climbed 31% from 2021–2024, one of the biggest spikes in the country.
  • Rising rebuilding costs, more severe weather, and tighter underwriting are reshaping the entire market.
  • Many homes are now underinsured, sometimes below the 80% replacement‑cost level. Meaning, reduced payouts when families need help the most.

This is exactly why policy reviews matter more than ever.

As a Relationship Manager at Northwest Federal Credit Union, I help people make, save, and protect their assets. My team is here to advocate for our members and not with a single carrier.

That means we can help you:

  • Make sure your home is valued correctly
  • Spot coverage gaps before they become expensive surprises
  • Compare multiple carriers to find the best fit (No constant solicitations)
  • Strengthen your financial protection during a time of rising risk

If it’s been a while since you’ve reviewed your home or auto insurance, now is a great time to take another look.

A simple 15‑minute conversation can bring real peace of mind and real savings too: book time with me.

At Northwest Federal Credit Union, we believe financial wellness begins long before graduation. We created our Collegiate Partnership Program to empower students with the knowledge, resources, and relationships they need to make informed financial decisions throughout their academic journey and beyond.

Through strategic partnerships with higher education institutions, including George Mason University, George Washington University, and Marymount University, Northwest is committed to providing meaningful financial education, career development opportunities, and personalized financial guidance to students, faculty, and staff.

The program goes beyond traditional banking services by focusing on relationship-building and financial empowerment. Through classroom presentations, student-athlete workshops, campus events, leadership discussions, financial literacy sessions, and one-on-one coaching opportunities, students gain practical tools to help them navigate budgeting, credit management, saving, investing, student loans, and preparing for life after college.

One of our newest initiatives provides students with personalized financial wellness conversations designed to help them identify goals, build healthy financial habits, and develop confidence in managing their financial future.

Our collegiate partnerships also create opportunities for Northwest employees to engage with campuses through mentorship, volunteerism, career development events, and community outreach—further strengthening our commitment to education and community impact.

The purpose of the Collegiate Partnership Program is simple: to create lifelong relationships by helping students succeed academically, professionally, and financially. By investing in the next generation today, Northwest continues to fulfill its mission of improving the financial well-being of the communities we serve.

Together, we are building stronger financial futures—one student, one conversation, and one partnership at a time.

Partnering with Northwest Federal Credit Union gives employers a meaningful way to offer additional value to their employees—at no cost—through access to credit union membership and financial wellness resources.

By extending this benefit, organizations can support their employees’ financial well-being while enhancing their overall benefits package. From educational resources to personalized financial services, membership provides tools that help individuals build confidence and stability in their financial lives.

One recent example involved a partner organization that chose to highlight financial wellness in their internal employee newsletter. This communication reached a broad audience and introduced many employees to the benefits of credit union membership, encouraging them to begin their financial wellness journey with Northwest.

In another instance, we partnered with an organization to deliver a tailored financial education webinar for their clients — adults with disabilities. The session was designed to address specialized financial needs, ensuring the content was accessible, relevant, and impactful for that audience.

These examples demonstrate how thoughtful collaboration can create meaningful opportunities to support both employees and the communities our partners serve. By working together, we can deliver valuable resources that make a lasting difference.

Northwest Federal Credit Union is proud to partner with the United States Tennis Association Mid-Atlantic Foundation (USTA-MA) and its Girls Rule the Court (GRTC) program, which uses tennis to build community, confidence, and well-being among young girls. Through this partnership, participants engage in a fun, supportive environment where they develop athletic skills, teamwork, and self-esteem under the guidance of female coaches and mentors.

As an annual sponsor, Northwest provides financial support, employee volunteers, and financial literacy education to help participants succeed both on and off the court. In 2025 alone, Northwest employees contributed more than 850 hours of volunteer service to Community Partners, demonstrating a strong commitment to creating meaningful, hands-on impact. Partnerships like GRTC benefit from this level of engagement through expanded access, mentorship, and long-term community investment.

At Northwest, we believe empowering more girls to participate in sports helps strengthen their physical and emotional health. This impact was evident at the recent year-end graduation at Seneca Ridge Middle School in Sterling, Virginia, where participants celebrated a year of growth, connection, and achievement.
