Commonwealth of Virginia Honors Northwest Federal Credit Union as a Top Employer for Interns

Herndon, Va. – October 19, 2026 – Northwest Federal Credit Union (Northwest) is proud to announce that it has been recognized as an InternshipsVA Top Employer for Interns by the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP). The award honors employers across the Commonwealth with extraordinary internship programs that give students meaningful, paid, and real-world experience.

“The employers recognized have shown an exceptional commitment to developing talent through high-quality internship experiences,” said VEDP President and CEO Jason El Koubi. “Their leadership is creating opportunities for Virginians and strengthening the Commonwealth’s talent pipeline for years to come.”

Northwest’s eight-week internship program provides hands-on training and challenging projects designed to prepare students for their professional career. This past summer, interns worked across a variety of teams, including IT Systems & Security, Retail & Branch Services, Finance, Mortgage, and HR/Talent Development, contributing to real initiatives that directly support the credit union’s success.

“The best way for students to understand a career is to experience it firsthand,” said Jean Cain, Chief Human Resources Officer at Northwest Federal Credit Union. “Our interns tackle real projects, hear directly from our leaders, a get an inside look at how a corporate workplace operates, helping them build valuable skills and confidence as they begin their professional journeys. We’re proud to be recognized by InternshipsVA for investing in the next generation of talent.”

Launched by Governor Abigail Spanberger in February, IntershipsVA helps employers design and expand high-quality internships for students throughout Virginia. In that past several months, the initiative has engaged more than 700 employers and partners and supported 845 internships through its matching grant. The Top Employers for Interns recognition celebrates organizations leading the way in preparing for the next generation of Virginia’s workforce. The full list of 2026 honorees are available here.

This is the second internship honor Northwest has received this year, following its recognition in April for the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia’s (SCHEV) Top Virginia Employers for Interns Award. These awards underscore Northwest’s continued investment in developing and empowering future professionals through meaningful career-building experiences.
