Washington, D.C. and Herndon, Va. – December 9, 2024 – George Washington (GW) University is excited to announce a partnership with Northwest Federal Credit Union (Northwest) to support GW’s more than 400 student-athletes in advancing their academic and financial well-being.

As part of this agreement, Northwest will provide GW’s student-athletes with financial literacy education and career development outlets to broaden their opportunities on and off-campus.

“Bringing a strong partner like Northwest on board will make a significant impact for our student-athletes and the entire GW community,” said George Washington University Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Michael Lipitz. “This partnership will make a difference in supporting our student-athletes both on and off-the-field, and helping them form a winning foundation to equip their futures.”

GW’s partnership with Northwest kicked off in November with Northwest serving as the presenting sponsor for the annual Miracle on 22nd Street Block Party. More than a thousand GW students and fans enjoyed the pre-game block party prior to the Revs men’s basketball victory over New Jersy Institute of Technology (NJIT). Northwest will work with GW’s Department of Athletics to provide a financial literacy curriculum for student-athletes and opportunities for the Revs to volunteer in the District of Columbia.

Northwest’s primary objective is to support every student-athlete, including both those aspiring to professional sports careers and those focused on other professional fields. Together, GW and Northwest seek to build a foundation for student-athletes’ success by fostering leadership, academic excellence, and financial confidence in addition to their expertise in their respective sports.
