Loss Mitigation Specialist
Overview
The Loss Mitigation Specialist is responsible for processing and resolving credit disputes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely handling. This role also supports key functions such as payment processing, charge-off account administration, and assisting members through the Financial Needs Committee process. The position plays an important role in maintaining account integrity, supporting collections efforts, and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies.
Responsibilities
- Process all credit disputes, including those received in writing, e-mail, case, and through e-Oscar
- Process payments for charged-off loans and accounts under bankruptcy
- Review payment exception reports and perform reconciliations on charged off and bankrupt accounts
- Prepare account documentation for review related to Financial Needs Committee applications
- Distribute incoming mail in a timely and organized manner
- Accurately update account statuses with detailed notes and appropriate follow-up actions
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, exercising sound judgment and discretion
- Remain knowledgeable of and adhere to company policies, procedures, and applicable regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)
- Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications
Required
- High-school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year of collections, banking, call center, legal, retail or customer service experience
- Ability to work effectively on-site in our Herndon VA headquarters and equally effectively remotely
- Ability to work Monday-Friday 8:00AM – 4:30PM
- Effective negation skills
- Ability to think strategically
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to interact effectively and all levels of the organization and with members
Preferred
- Experience working in a financial institution in Loss Mitigation
- Spanish language proficiency (verbal and written)
- Working knowledge of FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act)
- Working knowledge of FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act)
- Working knowledge of E- Oscar system
- Working knowledge of Chex Systems FCRA
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and databases

Base compensation for this role ranges from $19.15 – $32.53 hourly, depending on experience and qualifications.
