Week of Giving 2019

Herndon, Va. (December 17, 2019) – Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation started the holiday season off with their annual “Week of Giving,” thanking a number of organizations in their community and raising funds to support their on-going outreach programs. Those who benefitted this year included local area first responders from five different stations who received coupons and koozies from the Foundation in conjunction with Mission BBQ, and Irene’s Prom Closet, who received two full racks of prom dresses in support of their work to provide formal wear to local teens free of charge for special occasions.

For fundraising, the Foundation rallied Northwest Federal employees and their families with a seasonal treat—photos with Santa in exchange for a token donation supporting outreach efforts such as their yearly donations to local after-school programs. Additionally, the Foundation held a Chick-fil-A fundraising lunch, profits from which will help fund a 2020 continuing education scholarship.

“The Foundation would like to sincerely thank all who participated, donated and assisted in making this year’s ‘Week of Giving’ a tremendous success,”  said Executive Director of the NWFCU Foundation, Kaycee Childress. “The holiday season is a time to reflect on our blessings and pay it forward, which is what our ‘Week of Giving’ is all about.”

Starting off the Week of Giving was the launch of the Foundation’s 2020 Scholarship Program, with applications accepted now through March 15, 2020. Since its inception in 2005, the program has awarded financial scholarships to deserving students who demonstrate leadership, dedication and commitment in school, at home and in the community. The 2020 program is projected to award over $100,000 in scholarships.
